An amateur treasure hunter himself, for many years in dogged pursuit of the fabled Templar hoard, he is determined to beat his rival to whatever it is he's after. Two of his acquaintances, Canadian Sue-Ellen MacIntyre and American Megan Delany, may be in a position to offer him practical support and information. MacIntyre is a consultant at the Cyprus Museum, while Delany is a forensic scientist at the local Missing Persons Bureau. Both have compelling reasons to want to help O'Connor outfox the crafty smuggler. Divining what St. Croix is after may be the easy part though. Discovering that his sponsors belong to a sinister Freemasonic splinter group based in southern France casts a frightening new light on the reason he's so desperate to get his hands on it. Meanwhile, the unquiet ghost of a long-dead Herodian princess roams abroad, and her victims are piling up. It becomes a race against time for O'Connor to find the sacred relic before his nemesis does: the fate of modern civilisation may depend on it.
